Help!! The CARBS are attacking me!!!

Since Monday I have cut A LOT of carbs out of my diet. I am reading labels and all that jazz.

MY BODY IS GOING INTO SHOCK!!

It feels like if I don't eat a cupcake, I might actually die.

I know my body does not process sugar well so I am trying SOOOOOOOO hard to step away and eat healthy carbs.

But I am not kidding you when I say I could probably kill or steal for a piece of chocolate cake with chocolate icing. NO JOKE.

I really do not want to give in to this craving because I am the girl with no will power. I will not stop at a small piece of cake or just one cupcake. I will eat the whole darn thing. I will eat until I am physically ill (kinda how I got here in the first place)

I have an overeating problem. I never eat anything in moderation. It is something that I struggle EVERY day and I am slowly learning how to control.

BUT, how do I get rid of this without going insane??????

Also, unrelated to the carb thing, I am pretty sure I am lactose intolerant. How can I get all the nutrition that I would be getting from milk, cheese and yogurt? What are other foods I can eat or drink. I have never been diagnosed but hubby and I after trial and (major) error pretty much figured out that I must have an issue with dairy products.

And to be honest I am not sure if it's the lactose. My 3rd child is allergic to the cow protein, so that might be it too.

I need some ideas for the whole dairy thing and maybe some more suggestions about the CAKE thing.

Thanks guys!!

The first two or three days are fine and then BAM! It hits you like a ton of bricks. I want chocolate, I want cake....somebody get me a box of cookies NOW!

Sweet cravings are a tough one. I have been combating mine with fruits, and low-fat graham crackers with a little peanut butter smeared on them.

I would ask your regular physician about supplements for dairy replacements. :D

All righty, my kid has been making fun of me all day because she just figured out I'm lactose intolerant = dairy makes me fart. Hilarious, apparently.

Have soy milk with cereal (easiet breakfast ever) and when you go to bed have calcium and magnesium tablets. Done and dusted.

For the rest, just try and fit in 30 mins of exercise a day. So yeah, GET OFF THE COMPUTER and go for a walk.

Veggies girl! There are alot of vegetables that are higher in calcium than milk or cheese.

Broccoli, beans, asparagus, raw carrots..the list is extensive.

As for the carb thing, I can't help you there, I'm a carb lover at heart.

For chocolate cravings, I have a buddy system. I buy individually wrapped Dove Promises and give the bag to The Warden, my husband. He'll give me one or two piece a day, at my request. I count the calories. Sometimes I don't need it and a cup of Diet hot cocoa will do the trick. I'm not sure how many carbs that is??

If you can't eat dairy, maybe you need a Calcium supplement. Keep your bones healthy :)

Don't give in to the CAKE! Stay strong!

It's ok to have some artificial sweetener on a low carb diet, you just can't go crazy. I would suggest finding a few recipes with ingredients you like. My fave contains cream cheese, so obviously I'm not going to suggest that one. I buy sugar free jello cups, or you can buy it in a box and make it yourself. You can also have sugar free candy, but again don't eat a while bag or you will regret it. Another suggestion which is a little more expensive, are atkins bars.

Now, I know that artificial sweetener doesn't taste great when you are used to a high carb diet. But let me tell you, after a week of no sugar, those things taste like pure heaven!! Also, diet soda might help take the curb off your cravings. But just like real sugar you have to be moderate, because too much of it can affect your low carb diet, as well as have a laxative effect. (Which can actually be a blessing in disguise if you have been on low carb for some time.)

I think I have a link on my blog to a website with TONS of awesome recipes that have desserts as well as other carb friendly recipes. I use it daily, and have made many of them.

You don't need dairy to be healthy, and if you look into the "paleo" low carb diet, you will see that they do not eat dairy at all. This might be a better diet for you to follow. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions about any of the book I just wrote for you! LOL

I'm a low-carber too! My favorite lower-carb treat is mixed berries with half & half sprinkled with splenda. Obviously the half & half is a no go but I'm sure you could probably use soy milk. Like AJ said, sugar free Jello is good too. I ordered some Tastykakes sugar free cookie bars from Netrition.com. They taste good and only 8 carbs per serving. That's a lot during the induction phase of Atkins but 1/2 a bar should curb your cravings for a little while.

5 year TIME JUMP!

What!!?? A 5 year time jump? Crazy. I'm just want to pretend that I've been blogging for years and everyone is caught up. I know...
